Belize's official language is English so almost everyone there speaks it making it very easy to get around. People are nice and friendly.
The exchange rate accepted by all down there is $1US = $2BZ; US Dollars are accepted almost everywhere.
I am a bug magnet, that being said bring bug stuff because their mosquitos bite too!
The sun is intense all day too so if you're pale/fair like I am, sunscreen always!! Hats saved my scalp for most of the trip as well.
The water is safe to drink however most people serve and offer purified water in bottles and such anyways; feel free to brush you teeth and such with the sink water.
Random factoid: there are no US fast food chains in Belize (not that you're going for that anyways, but it is interesting to note... so don't go looking to try the McDonald's in Belize because from what I heard there isn't one).
Belize is a 3rd world country, don't expect the Ritz and you should be all good.
B (my boyfriend) and I took this trip together and it was our first real vacation alone that we flew on and didn't meet up with friends or family. Last year we took a road trip so that was different and great in its own right.
I'd be happy to answer any questions I can. Feel free to FB message me/email/etc. if you'd like.
I will post the details of the week of our trip coming soon as well with pictures (and maybe a video or 2)!... here's a sneak peek...
