Prep & Days 1-7

I cut up a ton of veggies and fruits on Sunday to prepare for the week... I also bought and cooked a variety of meats, and hard boiled some eggs because:

Here are a BuNcH of pictures of my foods for the week:

After 6 days of:
  • Do not consume added sugar of any kind, real or artificial
  • Do not consume alcoholtobacco products.
  • Do not eat grains
  • Do not eat legumes
  • Do not eat dairy.
  • Do not consume carrageenan, MSG or sulfites.
  • Do not eat white potatoes.
I've decided that thus far it's not too too bad. And getting easier everyday. I now travel with some sort of healthy snack (yay me) and still need to work on drinking enough water. I went out one night with a small container of grapes and only drank water (lots of it instead of lots of beer, again, yay me). Based on this experience though I've sort of decided (55% sure) that I will start allowing myself to have one day a week to imbibe, have a nice drink, and let loose. The Whole30 is designed to help you give up things you dont want in your life like the processed junk and many other things that aren't good for you in order to eat better to fuel your body and not inflame/ hurt your body... love it. But I'm at the point in my life where alcohol is something I quite enjoy and I do not intend to give that up nor do I need to give up my casual drink (although being more aware of how often I have a casual drink has been helpful... But some say its heart healthy right!?!) I realize that if I go through with this I will not technically be doing the Whole30... But improvement in my eating habits is underway and I intend to continue with that and that is my ultimate goal... To always work on being a better version of me and this is definitely a positive step. I will continue to post on my progress and thoughts on MY "Whole30" and other topics relating to my life as it comes up.  Cheers!

Cars and Birds

Random story:

The other day I was walking out of Target and noticed something in my grill (of my car)... it looked to me a bit like a red leaf (which is definitely out of season, but whatevs) so I thought I'd get it out quick before we drive off. As I got closer I noticed it was a friggin bird! A full on cardinal head deep in the front of my car. My boyfriend (much braver than me) was a bit leery and thought the thing could still be alive but alas, went at it with a hanger I happened to have in my car to pull it out. It was quite jammed in there though, the bird must have met his demise with my on the highway... and as he pulled it out the head def came a little loose... all I could think was "pretty bird, pretty bird" (dumb and dumber anyone?). The next day we went to the NC Brewers & Music festival and camped over night  While I was laying in the tent eavesdropping trying to fall asleep, I hear one of our friends point out that there is a bird wedged in the grill of his car as well... this time a robin that was STILL MOVING! a) I've never heard of that happening and b) what are the chances that it happens to two people I know (me being one of them) inside of 24 hrs. crazy!

has this ever happened to any of you? it was hilarious. and disgusting. and sad.

Running Without Headphones...

First off,  if you're reading this I'm thrilled. Thanks. Now onto my first real post.

For me, running without headphones is a blessing and a curse. Generally, I love to listen to my running playlist, entitled: "fatty mix" (as a motivator for me people) and bop around with the beat while I run my x miles... it keeps me blissfully unaware of the creeps that beep and whistle and other annoyances. BUT, occasionally I forget my headphones/iPod or I run in the rain sans electronics. When I run without music, I am painfully more aware of my tight calf, my breathing, my feet slapping the ground, or the creeps driving down the road. On the positive side, it also gives me time to really think about all the things that are going on in my head and life which I quite enjoy (once the calves loosen up and I get over it ;) ). I think and rethink things that have happened , Iplan and replan things that are going to happen, and I appreciate the stuff around me, which is usually nature as I prefer to run outside. This week I have run 3.5 miles (with a double jogger to boot) and 2.5 miles without headphones which has left me a lot of time to think and plan for a big change I plan to make starting Monday, May 13th, my first Whole30 Paleo experience... should be good stuff, hard. but good. Until next time.
